Dear Neighbor,
My name is Mark Baker and I am running for Sussex County Council in the 3rd District because I care deeply about this County and its people. My family has been a part of this community for generations and I want to see Sussex County have a bright future for my children and the children of every Sussex County resident.
I believe in limited government and low taxes. I believe in personal responsibility and understand that government cannot be everything to everybody. I will make every decision with an open mind, a healthy respect for private property rights and a consideration for the good of the community at large. I believe that everybody's opinion should be respected and I will be able to work with both sides of a debate in order to build a consensus.
As Sussex County continues its work to preserve and protect the inland bays with the expansion of central sewer systems, I look forward to working with the County's Engineering Department to make sure this is done in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible. The financial burden of county provided water and sewer on homeowners needs the watchful eye of a dedicated public servant. I will be a watchdog for my constituents.
As a member of a small family business, I know how to watch the bottom line. While Sussex County government hasn't had to raise taxes in years, spending has increased dramatically growing by 26% in 2006 budget alone. Last year the county finished over $2.7 million dollars in the red and the current audit will likely reflect another deficit. I pledge to you that I will do all in my power to keep spending at responsible levels so that we can maintain our tradition of extremely low property taxes.
In the coming weeks I look forward to a conversation with you about the important issues facing our county. I will be accessible and working very hard to earn your vote on November 4th. Please consider joining our team or making a contribution by clicking on the link on the left side of the page.
Sincerely,
Mark Baker
